EVALUATION
There are many ways to evaluate the solution to my problem of practice. Prior to implementing the changes, students struggled with understanding deeply the concepts of mass, volume, and density. After implementing the TPACK changes, students should have a deeper understanding of density and perform better on the assessment at the end of the unit.
Before the density lesson, students will take a pre-test that is similar to the test that was given during the 2013-2014 school year. Not only will this give me data on what my students know, but it will also be a good comparison to how the students improve in their thinking.
Throughout the lesson, I will give planned formative assessments in different ways to ensure that students master their learning and truly understand mass, volume, and density. Some of these formative assessments may include using TED-Ed assessments, short-answer quizzes, or whole-class discussions. Through these avenues as well as observations in the class, I will begin to see where students are struggling and hold conferences with these students. At the end of the density unit, students will take a post-test to compare to their original scores as well as the 2013-2014 data of test scores.
If the solution to the problem of practice is successful, data should show an increase in scores in the A, B, and C range and a decrease in the scores of D and E.
